PRODUCTION OF WOOL


Will the Minister of
TEXTILES
be pleased to state:-
(a) the annual production of wool in the country during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise;

(b) the funds released under the Sheep and Wool Improvement Programme in the country including Karnataka during the said period, State/UT-wise;

(c) the number of beneficiaries in the country including Karnataka under this scheme during the said period, State/ UT-wise;

(d) whether the Indian woollen goods are considered to be of low quality in the international markets which results in lack of demand; and

(e) if so, whether the Government has taken any steps to improve the quality of woollen goods as per the international standard and if so, the details thereof?

(a): As per Basic Statistics on Animal Husbandry & Fisheries published by Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, the production of wool in the country during last three years was 46.05 m Kg. (2012-13), 47.91 m Kg. ( 2013-14), 48.14 m Kg, ( 2014-15) and 50.18 m Kg. is projected to be produced in 2015-16. The State-wise information is at Annexure.

(b): Funds released by Central Wool Development Board under Sheep & Wool Improvement Scheme in the country including Karnataka during the last three years and the current year, state-wise are as under:- (Rs. in lakh)
