(a) & (b): In 2014-15, Andhra Pradesh was the third largest contributor in the production of Spun Yarn in India after Tamil Nadu and Punjab. Andhra Pradesh contributed 8.7% in total production of spun yarn in India in 2014-15. However, its share in the production of man-made fibre and filament yarn is negligible (Annex I).
(c): The Ministry of Textiles implements Schemes like Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Schemes for the Development of the Powerloom Sector, Schemes for Technical Textiles, Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), Integrated Skill Development Scheme and Schemes for Handloom, Handicraft and Sericulture all of which are intended for boosting the Indian textile sector and making it competitive vis-à-vis the foreign companies.
(d) &(e): Ministry of Textiles had constituted an Expert Committee headed by Shri Ajay Shankar, Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council for reviewing the Textile Policy 2000. The Expert Committee has since submitted a draft Vision, Strategy and Action Plan. Based on this document, the New Textile policy is under finalization.
