QUESTION NO.1542
TO BE ANSWERED ON 08.05.2015
IMPORT
OF CHINESE SILK YARN
1542.
SHRI AMBETH RAJAN:
Will the Minister of TEXTILES be pleased to state:
(a)
whether it is a fact that inspite of imposition
of Anti-Dumping duties on raw silk and
silk fabric imported from China, there is substantial increase in the import of
Chinese silk yarn in the country; and
(b)
if so, whether Government proposes to impose more
restrictions in this regard and if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
THE
MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE)
IN THE
MINISTRY OF TEXTILES
(SHRI SANTOSH KUMAR GANGWAR)
(a) & (b): Imports of raw silk, silk yarn and silk fabrics have been declining in
recent years, as evident from the details given below. This appears due to
several reasons like increase in
production within the country as well as partly due to imposition of customs
duty and anti-dumping duty. Imposition
of restriction is decided by the competent authority based on relevant facts. The
Directorate General of Foreign Trade & Allied Duties (DGAD), Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued
a Gazette Notification on 9th
December, 2014 for investigation of Anti-Dumping Duty on raw silk. The anti-dumping duty on silk fabrics is
currently in force till December 2016.
